David Katzir

72 years old at the time of his death
27.6.1951-7.10.2023

"A husband, a father, a grandfather, in every vein of his soul. Earth man, whispering to pigeons."

Our “Katch’ko” was born and raised in Haifa. He joined the Nahal core group in Ramat Rachel kibbutz and was part of the group responsible for their agricultural crops. He arrived at Kfar Aza in 1978, and went straight into the field crops team. He became the point person for crops, the field, and the main point of contact for the kibbutz farm.
“Katch’ko” was considered a national expert on growing crops overall, but he was a specialist in growing potatoes.
He was self-taught, was fascinated by a variety of fields - and became an expert in anything that sparked his interest . With Dobush he scoured the country looking for anything that had to do with the Turkish train, while simultaneously becoming an expert on World War I in Israel. This is how another hobby was formed - traveling the country, especially archeological and historical sites, and the “ “Katch’ko” Travel” group was established.
When he retired, he fulfilled 2 more dreams: raising courier pigeons and going on extreme Jeep excursions.
Of course, he quickly gained a lot of knowledge regarding raising courier pigeons, grew an impressive flock, and offered his advice humbly to anyone who asked for it,
His family was always on his mind more than anything, and he was devoted to them with all of his being. On Saturdays he’d drive his grandchildren in the Jeep to the field to harvest potatoes, and then make fresh french fries from them at home.
On October 7th, 2023 he was murdered at the gate of the kibbutz, on his way to travel on a Jeep trip.
He is survived by his wife, 5 children and 8 grandchildren, all broken hearted with endless pain.
