Naomi Degany

80 years old at the time of her death
24.7.1943-7.10.2023

"We should learn from the flowers not to skimp on smiles. And the world, you’ll see, will suddenly be so wonderful."

A warm, friendly and beloved woman, known for her ever-present smile and enormous heart. Her optimism never wavered, even during the hardest times and crises.
She was a nurse at the Kfar Aza clinic as well as the NICU at Soroka hospital; A loving mother and grandmother, completely dedicated to her family, and took great pride in her grandchildren. Just one year before her passing, Naomi experienced the loss of her husband.
Naomi had a special gift of nurturing, especially when it came to children and infants. She was opinionated, curious and incredibly knowledgeable—truly a walking medical encyclopedia. Committed to a healthy and active lifestyle, she loved exploring nature and going on trips.
As one of the long-standing members of Kfar Aza, Naomi had a deep love for the Kibbutz, the people and the community.
On the morning of October 7th, although Naomi was alone, she managed to reach out to her family. As they spoke, it became clear that she was concerned. Nevertheless, she still spent her final moments making her grandchildren laugh. Then, tragically, contact was lost.
We will always remember Naomi as a humble Kibbutz member who took care and gave endlessly to others. Her happiness and cheerfulness will live on in our hearts.
