Yam Goldstein Almog
20 years old at the time of her death
4.3.2003-7.10.2023
"A sea full of life and rolling laughter."
Yam was born on March 4th, 2003, at Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon.
She was the eldest daughter to Nadav and Chen, who were the happiest parents.
Yam, true to her name, was sometimes stormy and sometimes calm. Her golden, curly hair adorned her bright and beautiful face. From the moment she was born, she knew what she wanted, knew how to stand up for her beliefs, full of potential and an infectious laugh that could be heard wherever she was present.
She was raised and educated in the Kibbutz Kfar Aza school system, and over time developed a deep love for working with young children. Babies were always crazy about her, and she, in return, was crazy about them. As a teenager, she was a counselor in the Scouts and was an integral part of the youth group with others her age: the Shita (Acacia tree) group.
Yam was in a loving and nurturing relationship with Tomer Stein from Kibbutz Or HaNer. They were a beautiful couple. Truly wonderful. Tomer became an integral part of the Goldstein Almog family. Yam attended the local high school in Sha’ar HaNegev, and she was an exceptional student, deeply dedicated to her studies; this included an auspicious goal to complete 5 units of English and Math - and she was successful.
Even before she was drafted to the IDF, she decided that she wanted a meaningful role while in service, and became a basic training commander at Training Base 7, Computer and IT Unit. Yam was a young woman filled with energy, potential, and incredible appreciation for life with a huge heart.
Yam had a captivating smile, and an infectious rolling laugh. She was always surrounded by friends who adored her, and she was a respected and admired commander to her soldiers and peers. Yam poured her heart into every project she undertook, executing with excellence. Yam was all heart. During her military service, Yam paved her way through various command roles, from squad commander, to sergeant, and finally company sergeant major in the basic training unit. Yam knew no fear, and yet fear decided her fate on that Black Saturday.
Yam was murdered alongside her father, Nadav, in their home in Kibbutz Kfar Aza on October 7, 2023.
